With ever-changing government guidance, travel restrictions and quarantining rules, the University recognises that the situation around the pandemic has been particularly tough for international students. There is a range of support for international students at UEA, so here’s a reminder of what’s available:
Student Services have a dedicated International Student Advisory team who can provide advice and guidance on a wide range of issues whilst you are studying at UEA. Some of the issues they can help with include:
Student Services also provide specific support to international students on arrival to the University, including supported transport to UEA from airports and helping students settle in to life at UEA when they arrive.
You can find a range of resources on their My UEA pages. If you would like to book an appointment with an adviser, please complete the online referral form or email studentsupport@uea.ac.uk.
There’s a wide range of wellbeing and mental health support for all students at UEA whether you’re living on campus or studying remotely:
Students can also find details of external resources/organisations on our COVID-19 Wellbeing Resources page.
If you are in financial difficulty due to pandemic, students can apply to our Hardship Fund. If you’d like to speak to someone about your financial situation, remember it’s never too late to ask for help - our Student Life Advisers will be able to give you impartial, non-judgemental advice. Complete and return the online referral form to book an appointment.
If you do need to self-isolate for any reason, including travel, then our COVID Support Team can help. If you need to self-isolate, please complete the UEA COVID-19 and Self-Isolation form as soon as possible so that the University can put support in place for you, or contact sts.covidsupport@uea.ac.uk.
Everyone has the right to live, work and study in a safe, respectful and inclusive environment, and UEA is committed to ensuring our campus is a welcoming and supportive place to be for all students and staff. However, if you ever witness or experience any behaviour which is unacceptable, you can report it through our dedicated Report and Support site – your concerns will be taken seriously and you will be provided with support. You can report either anonymously or by leaving your contact details, and you can also report on someone else’s behalf or if you have witnessed an incident.
CareerCentral’s full service is available for international students, including one to one appointments, workshops and online courses and resources. They also support international graduates for 3 years post-graduation.
They have specific pages of our online resources for International students as well as ‘global opportunities week’ and some specific workshops for international students. They also hold country guides and an international job search and provide International mentors.
The Students’ Union have put together some peer support networks for students, to allow them to get together virtually and use their own experiences to help one another. There is a network for international students – to find out more and to sign up, please visit the uea(su) website.
Externally to UEA, international students can also get information and advice from the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UK CISA). You can find out more on their website, including a page with latest advice on the impact of coronavirus and international students.
