The below message is from Helen Wiseman, Director of People and Culture around annual increments for those on Grade 8 or above.
Dear all
As you’re aware, over the past 12 months we’ve been working hard to explore ways in which we can address our financial deficit as a result of COVID-19 and the subsequent lockdowns.
Last summer we let you know that annual increments for those on Grade 8 or above would be delayed for a period of one year until August 2021 (all other grades below Grade 8 received their annual increment as normal and are not affected).
We have been reviewing the payment of those delayed increments with the campus trades unions with a view to reinstating them as soon as it is financially viable. I am pleased to confirm that while our financial position is still challenging and we continue to look for ways to limit our deficit, we will be reinstating increments with effect from 1 August 2020. This means that those staff that were impacted by the freeze will see an increase to the appropriate increment in their July pay (together with the full backpay i.e. 11 months from 1st August 2020).
It is also our intention to implement contractual annual increments for all staff with effect from 1 August 2021.
Any decision to impact pay is not taken lightly and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to those colleagues who were impacted and helped to support the University through this continuing difficult period.
Thanks
Helen
