UEA is a safe campus but it’s important to stay alert and know how to keep yourself, your colleagues and your campus safe.
UEA Security
UEA Security officers are on campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and are ready to deal with any situation. UEA Security officers are easily identifiable across campus; all wear a UEA Security uniform and can provide you with proof of identification if you are unsure.
Contact UEA Security on 01603 592352 for general enquiries, or on 01603 592222 in an emergency, or email security@uea.ac.uk
SafeZone
The SafeZone app is designed to help you feel safer on campus in situations where you might be working late at night or alone early in the morning. SafeZone gets you quick access to UEA Security should you need first aid or urgent help.
The SafeZone app can also be used to provide reassurance if you ever feel vulnerable walking across campus. Simply press the ‘help’ button, and your whereabouts become known to a UEA Security officer who will then meet you and see you safely back to your final destination on campus. As soon as assistance is given, your location on the app reverts to private. You can call for help as many times as you need.
Go to safezoneapp.com to download the app to your device.
Lone Working
Any work-related activity carried out by an individual who works by themselves without close or direct supervision constitutes lone working. There are a number of ways to reduce any risks associated with lone-working but may include setting up a buddy system; having a reporting-in procedure where another person is regularly contacted who can raise an alarm if contact is lost; having a system to record where lone workers are going and when they are expected back; or using the SafeZone app.
For more information on lone working, and to ensure that appropriate lone-working arrangements are in place in your department, consult the Lone Working page on my.uea
Don’t forget...
If you’re on campus after dark, stick to the designated lit walkways and let someone know your whereabouts and expected return time.
If you’re cycling, ensure your bike has functional lights and consider using reflective clothing to enhance your visibility during low-light conditions.
The process and policy for the digital signage system has been revised and updated with clear step-by-step instructions on how to create a digital screen template, updated submission guidelines and a new digital signage submission form.
