As a response to the rapid and ongoing development of Generative Artificial Intelligence
(AI) tools, and requests from you on how to use them to support your studies, a Generative
AI Policy for Teaching and Learning at UEA has
been developed and is now available for you to view.
The purpose of this policy is to provide you with clarity around appropriate use of
Generative AI tools to effectively support you in your studies; acknowledging that usage will differ according to discipline area.
It is important that you develop skills in using Generative AI tools but you must
be aware of their strengths and limitations and can learn how to challenge their outputs. The policy clearly indicates where Generative AI tools can and cannot be used to support you in your studies.
Where School approach or practice differs from the University guidance set out in
the policy, this will be communicated and explained to you.
The Generative AI Policy for Teaching and Learning at UEA will be regularly
reviewed and updated to ensure it remains current and in line with best practice, so do ensure you review the policy on a regular basis.
Practical guidance on what AI tools are and how to use them to support
you in your studies has been compiled by the Library and Learning Enhancement Team (LET).
If you have any queries about the application of the Generative AI Policy for Teaching
and Learning at UEA, please speak to your Director of Teaching and Learning.
Best wishes,
Prof Kay Yeoman, APVC-Learning and Teaching Enhancement
