Between Monday 29 April and Friday 3 May you will receive
a simulated phishing email as part of the University’s Phishing Awareness Campaign.
The purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness and enhance cyber security measures to protect University data, personal information and digital assets, as well as
keeping you up to date on further personal protection measures for you to consider outside of the University environment.
Phishing emails try to steal your account details and can appear to be from people or organisations you know. They may contain links to fake websites that look official
and ask you to provide personal or valuable data such as your IT account password, bank details or payment card information.
Managed phishing simulation is a tool to help inform and remind individuals of the action to take when in receipt of a suspicious email. There is no intention to ‘catch
people out’ - the purpose of this approach is to be educational, similar to when completing fire drills.
All UEA staff have now taken part in this campaign.
What will happen?
-
You will receive a simulated email that has been produced to replicate a phishing email sometime
between Monday 29 April and Friday 3 May
-
Depending on your interaction with the email, you may receive an invitation to take part in a user-friendly seven-minute training session. Whilst not mandated and not
forming part of your staff training record, your welcome co-operation will really help us spread this vital data security awareness
-
For more information on how to spot Phishing emails and what to do when you receive a suspicious email visit the
Phishing page on my.uea
-
You can also watch a short video
‘Avoiding
Phishing Scams’ on the LinkedIn Learning platform for more information
-
During the simulation period,
please be mindful that you may also receive a genuine phishing email making it all the more important that you know how to report suspicious emails
-
Don’t worry if you are on leave during the issue of the simulation email, the exercise isn’t time constrained
It is important that all students who regularly use emails as part of their studies take part in this simulation to ensure the University is providing ongoing assurance around the reporting of all
suspicious emails.
Thank you in advance for taking part in this campaign. If you have any questions or feedback, please email
