In order to receive free health care whilst at university, you must register with a GP (General Practitioner or Doctor). If you are in the UK for 6+ months and live within the
practice boundary area, the University Medical Service (UMS) on campus provides free NHS care and support should you need it during your time at university.
Register online at the UEA Medical Centre here
- it’s quick and easy and only takes 5 minutes!
For further information on eligibility to register at UMS, registering in person and information for overseas students, please go to the

Meningitis and Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR) awareness and vaccinations
Meningococcal disease is a rare but life threatening infectious disease, and in recent years there have been outbreaks of Measles and Mumps in UK Universities, due to the large numbers of students living and studying in
the close confines of a university campus. Measles and Mumps are both infectious diseases that can have severe complications.
The Department of Health strongly recommends you have 2x MMR vaccines and 1x MenACWY vaccine before starting university.
If it has not been possible to have these vaccines prior to your arrival at UEA, please make an appointment with the nurse at the UMS by calling 01603 251600.
MenACWY is available FREE to all aged 24 or under and MMR is available FREE to all at any age who have not been immunised.

Tuberculosis (TB) screening
If you are an international student, you may need to be screened for TB if you come from a country with a high prevalence of this disease.
If your country appears on this list, register with the UMS as soon as possible
and within the first two weeks of arrival at UEA. TB screening is free. Failure to be screened for TB is a breach of university regulations and may lead to suspension and exclusion from campus.
Covid vaccinations
It is strongly recommended that all those coming to university have had at least 2 doses of a Covid vaccination.
For further information see the NHS Coronavirus vaccination page and book a
Covid vaccination appointment online.
Thank you.
