UEA Council appoints
Professor David Maguire as UEA’s substantive Vice-Chancellor and President
Dear All,
UEA Council has appointed Professor David Maguire as UEA’s substantive Vice-Chancellor and President.
Professor Maguire joined UEA as interim Vice-Chancellor in spring 2023 for a period of two years. Following detailed consideration and consultation, Council has agreed unanimously to confirm his appointment as substantive Vice-Chancellor and President.
Council is confident that Professor Maguire is the best person to provide the focus needed to guide UEA into a sustainable and positive future and is delighted that he will now be staying on as Vice-Chancellor.
Stability and consistency, together with outstanding research and teaching leadership, are key to securing UEA’s long-term sustainability and academic success. Professor Maguire will ensure recovery and change continue at pace, and that UEA’s mission to provide
outstanding education and research for the public benefit is realised.
Since joining UEA in spring last year, Professor Maguire has led the implementation of financial improvement, as agreed by Council, and overseen the development of UEA’s new ambitious Strategy 2030.
Professor Maguire has expressed his commitment to delivering the leadership UEA needs to navigate the many challenges facing the Higher Education sector. I know that he has been impressed by all that the University offers and its role as an anchor institution
in the region.
UEA is an incredibly successful global institution which delivers outstanding education to thousands of students from across the world, and world-leading research across a wide portfolio of disciplines. I am pleased that Professor Maguire will be here to lead
the delivery of UEA’s long term vision and strategy.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Sally Howes OBE
